The University of Kansas Club Hockey team is pleased to announce their coaching staff for the 2007-2008 season. Tom Prendergast has been hired by the club as head coach. He will oversee all day-to-day activities for the club for the upcoming season. Timon Veach, who served as an assistant coach last season and interim head coach over the summer has been named associate head coach and will direct recruiting for the upcoming season. Matt Hearn is the new assistant coach for the team. David Knight will coach the Junior Varsity team.
Tom Prendergast is a St. Louis, Mo. Native. He has been playing hockey his whole life. Tom played NCAA Division 1 hockey at St. Louis University. Tom works and lives in the Kansas City area where he is actively involved in organizing and directing youth and adult sports. He brings a wealth of knowledge about both hockey and organizing and marketing the team to the KU program. Previously, Tom coached minor hockey in the Kansas City Stars organization.
Timon Veach was born in Lawrence, Kan. He moved to Detroit, Mich. when he was 8 and started playing hockey shortly thereafter. Timon attended high school at Fox Chapel Area High School in Pittsburgh, Pa. before returning to Kansas to attend college. He played club hockey in college for the University of Kansas while studying Journalism. He was a founding member of the current club and served as an officer and assistant captain for two years before serving as assistant coach last season. He currently works and lives in Lawrence.
Matt Hearn was born in Burnsville, Minn. He moved to Olathe, KS during high school. Matt attended DeSoto High School and finished his minor hockey career in the Kansas City Stars organization. Matt played club hockey here at KU while earning his degree in Biology. He currently works and lives in the Kansas City area. This is Matt's first year coaching.
David Knight was born in Belleville, On., Canada. He moved to Lawrence, Kan. during high school and attended Free State high school where he played on the school's hockey team in the Kansas City Metro High School Hockey League (KCMHSHL). David is a member of the KCMHSHL Hall of Fame. He played collegiate hockey for the club team at Kansas. He served as an officer assistant captain for the team and is the club's all-time leading scorer. David graduated from KU last spring with a degree in Economics and currently lives and works in Lawrence.

The Jayhawks are starting their season a week earlier than previously announced. The 2007-2008 season will now kick off on September 14th at 8pm against Denver Metro State University. The Jayhawks hold a 4-1-1 record against the Roadrunners since Kansas began play in the ACHA in 2003.

The 2007-2008 schedule has been released. The Jayhawks currently have a 25 game schedule. The team may add one or two more weekends and will release game times as they become available. Check back for updates.

The Jayhawks play host to the University of Missouri this Friday, March 2, @ 8:00pm at Ice Midwest. It is Senior night as well as Alumni night. This will be the last home game of the season. The Jayhawks then travel to Jefferson City, MO to play Mizzou on Saturday, March 3, at 8:00pm.

Kansas defeated Nebraska 6-4 on Friday and 6-5 on Saturday. On Saturday, Senior Forward David Knight scored four goals including the game-tying goal with seven seconds remaining in regulation and the game-winner in overtime. Kansas swept the season series from the 'Huskers by winning all five games including one in the Big 12 Tournament.
December 20, 2006 -
The Kansas Jayhawks finished the semester sweeping Denver Metro at home. Eleven Jayhaws scored on the weekend outscoring Denver 18-11.
Friday Erik Bredesen got a hat trick and assisted on a Dave Knight. Adam Diltz got his first goal of the season for KU. Beard, Crohn, Hantge, and Zellmer also scored for the Jayhawks. Although KU had a great offensive game they struggled defensively giving up 7 goals, 4 coming in the third period. Zak Reneau minded the net and got his 2nd win of the season winning 10-7.
Saturday the Jayhawks came out and put up three goals in the first period and Denver Metro never had a chance to catch back up. Matt Zellmer had 2 goals while Ryne Tusten and Andy Nissen both had a goal for the defense. Adam Crohn, Chris Beard, and Dan Guilfoil each netted a goal. Erik Bredesen, the Jayhawks leading scorer, netted his 21st goal of the season giving him 30 total points. Brent Pitts played in goal for the Jayhawks saving 34 shots giving his team the 8-4 win.

The Jayhawks beat Texas A & M Friday 6-1 in front of big home crowd. Ben Bruhn, Adam Crohn and Dave Knight all had a goal for KU and Matt Zellmer had a hat trick. Zellmer scored all of his goals in the third period all unanswered giving him the natural hat trick.
On Saturday, KU came out looking for their third win in a row facing The University of Texas Longhorns. The Jayhawks came out fast and put up four goals in the first period thanks to Erik Bredesen who had a two goal first period. Andy Nissen had a goal and showed he is getting back to full strength after missing the second half of last season and the beginning of this year following shoulder surgery. Ben Bruhn had a pair of goals as well and helped his team get their 8th win of the season.
November 6, 2006 -
Kansas travelled to Mankato, Minnesota this weekend to face the Minnesota State Mavericks. The Jayhawks came away with a split, losing 6-1 on Friday and winning 7-5 on Saturday.
On Friday night, senior forward Nick Hantge put the Jayhawks up 1-0 early in the second period. Kansas held the lead throughout most of the second until a Maverick goal with 1:28 remaining tied the score. Minnesota State scored again before the intermission and took a 2-1 lead into the locker room. The Mavericks then scored four goals in the third period to cap off their six unanswered goals en route to the victory.
Kansas rebounded Saturday night to win a high-scoring game. Senior forward David Knight notched a hat-trick to break out of a month-long scoring slump. Senior forward Nick Hantge scored on a breakaway early in the third period for this seventh goal of the year. In the middle of the third,Adam Crohn intercepted a pass while on a penalty kill. Crohn skated the puck and scored on a slapshot from inside the Minnesota State blueline. The shorthanded goal put Kansas up 4-3 and gave them the lead for good. Freshman forward Steve Addyman scored two late goals, the game winner and an empty-netter, that put the Mavericks away.
The victory on Saturday was the first in club history against a ranked team. Minnesota State came into the series ranked 12th in the Central Region. Knight had not scored a goal since Sep. 30 at Nebraska. The six-game drought was the longest of his career. Kansas plays host to Texas A&M on Friday and Texas on Saturday.

The Jayhawks travel to Dallas this weekend to compete in the inaugural BIG XII Classic Tournament. Kansas faces Colorado in its first game. The Jayhawks lost to CU two weeks ago in Boulder by a score of 7-4.

Creighton University has cancelled the game scheduled for Friday, October 20 and Saturday Octber 21. The KU Hockey team apologizes to all those that have already made plans to attend the games. We hope this does not deter your attendance at future games or your support of the team.
The team travels to Dallas next weekend, October 27-29, for the 1st Annual Big XII Hockey Tournament. The jayhawks first game in the tournament will be against the University of Colorado.
The next scheduled home games are Friday, November 10, @ 8pm vs. Texas A&M University and Saturday, November 11, @ 3pm vs. the University of Texas.

Kansas dropped a pair of games in Colorado this weekend to teams that ended last season nationally ranked. Friday night, the Jayhawks lost to the Colorado Buffaloes 7-4. The Buffaloes finished last season ranked 8th in ACHA Division 2.
Both teams were plagued by penalties. Kansas had a difficult time esablishing rhythm and was out-shot 52-18. Ben Bruhn, Nick Hantge, Ryne Tusten and Erik Bredesen scored for the Jayhawks. Eric Hylok stopped 45 shots in the loss.
On Saturday the Jayawks travelled to Ft. Collins to face the Colorado State Rams who finished last season ranked 3rd in the Nation among Division 2 club teams.
Again the Jayhawks struggled with penalties. CSU capitalized, scoring two five-on-three goals including one by Jordan Stover with 13:50 remaining in the third period. That goal would stand to be the game-winner. Brent Pitts stopped 62 of 65 CSU shots in the loss. Kansas managed only 19 shots in the game. The Rams added two late empty-net goals to make the final score 5-2.
Kansas is now 3-3 on the season. The Jayhawks play host to the Creighton Blue Jays this weekend in Overland Park.

Kansas swept the Nebraska Cornhuskers this weekend. On Friday, the Jayahwks won 9-5 despite trailing 4-1 going into the locker room after the first period. In the second, Kansas was helped out by a lucky bounce that sent the puck into an empty net during a delayed penalty. Sophomore Goaltender Brent Pitts was credited with the goal, the first of his career. Kansas scored five more unanswered goals before Nebraska scored to pull within two. Sophomore forward Eric Wyer closed the door on the Husker comeback attempt when he knocked home a rebound late in the third period. Pitts collected his second win in as many starts this season.
On Saturday, Kansas scored three quick goals and never looked back winning 8-2. Sophomore forward Erik Bredesen collected his first hat-trick of the season and goaltender Eric Hylok collected his first win as a Jayhawk. Matt Zellmer had two goals and Steve Addyman had three assists for the playmaker.
Kansas has a week off before heading west to face Colorado and Colorado State on Oct. 13 and 14.

The Jayhawks topped the Missouri State (White) Bears 5-4 to win their season opener. Brent Pitts got the start in goal and the win. Senior forward David Knight scored the first two goals of the year in the first period. Both were powerplay goals. Freshman forward Steve Addyman scored his first career goal eight seconds into the second period and Sophomore linemate Erik Bredesen tallied ten seconds later to make the score 4-0. The Bears rallied to make the score 4-2 before the end of second, but Addyman scored what would prove to be the game winner 15 seconds into the third period on a pass from Bredesen. The Bears scored two late goals, but their comeback attempt fell just short. The teams face-off again tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m.
August 24, 2006 -Congratulations to Brent Pitts for winning the first annual 5K run and finishing under Twenty minutes! Brent has worked hard off the ice this summer in the weight room and it has shown in our dryland practices. Top 5 finishers were: Brent Pitts, Mark Quinn, Ben Bruhn, Erik Bredesen and Matt Zellmer.

Geoff has been a part of the club for five years and has served as the club's president. Tim Veach will be handling the assistant coaching duties for the coming season. Tim has also been with the club for five years and was also an officer. We are very excited about our new coaches and the upcoming season. We feel it will be the best in Kansas Hockey history.

The team has released its 2006-2007 schedule. Please note that game times for the upcoming season have changed. The Friday night game will remain at 8 p.m. while the Saturday game moves to 3 p.m. in order to accommodate families with younger children. The schedule includes home dates against Big XII rivals Nebraska, Missouri and Texas A&M.

The search for the next head hockey coach at the University of Kansas officially began
yesterday. The Jayhawks have begun the process of finding a replacement for the
exiting Jeff Engel by posting the opening and the Hawks will now start searching for
interested candidates. If interested please send inquiries to Ryne Tusten at rtusten@gmail.com or Nick Hantge at hantge@ku.edu. This is a salaried position but details will be negotiated individually.
March 4, 2006 -The Kansas Jayhawks lost two hard-fought battles against the Missouri Tigers. to end the season. The Friday game was a 4-2 loss with Mizzou scoring an empty-netter at the end of the game. Both teams played well and kept the game pretty unlike past meetings between the two teams.
The Saturday game in Jefferson City brought another exciting game. Ben Bruhn, Hutchinson, Minn., freshman, scored two goals for the Jayhawks including one late in the third period to tie the game 3-3. The Jayhawks looked to be in control during the whole third period but could not finish when it counted most. Some questionable officiating left the Jayhawks shorthanded late in the third period and the game went into overtime. It was ended by a Mizzou goal three minutes into the extra frame. Kansas finished the season with a record of 11-17-2.
The Jayhawks will take to the ice again next season starting in September. A finalized schedule will be released in within the upcoming month. The support for the team has been tremendous this year and the team would like to thank all of their fans for coming out to cheer them on this season.

Last weekend, Kansas skated to a hard fought 2-2 tie with the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers during game one of a two-game series. Freshman goaltender Brent Pitts got the tie, stopping 34 of 36 shots. Scoring for the Jayhawks were David Knight and Ryne Tusten. Saturday, despite an early 9:30 a.m. start time and a long delay for repairs to the ice, showcased a much stronger Jayhawks team. Kansas came out strong and came away with a 5-3 win. Scoring for the Jayhawks were Benjamin Bruhn, Matthew Zellmer, Ryne Tusten, Dan Guilfoil, and David Knight who had the eventual game winner. Sophmore goaltender Adam Paulitsch got the win, stopping 47 of 50 shots. The Jayhwaks finish the season this weekend with a home-and-home series with the rival Missouri Tigers. Friday\'s home finale is Senior Night. The game starts at 8 p.m. at Ice Midwest.

The Jayhawks dropped two hard fought games this past weekend against the Billikens of Saint Louis University. Friday night, Kansas lost 7-1. SLU took an early 5-0 lead and never looked back. David Knight picked up the Jayhawks lone goal late in the first period and made the score 5-1.
The second game of the series was a different story. Kansas went into the third period tied 1-1 thanks to great goaltending by freshman goalie Brent Pitts and a goal by freshman defensemen Matt Hinsz. The Jayhawks had momentum and seemed prepared to come out with the win. SLU, however, scored the go-ahead goal late in the thrid period and added and empty-net goal to bring the score to 3-1. The Jayhawks tried to rally late, as freshman Josh Raper added a goal in the last seconds to make the final score 3-2. Kansas has a week off before heading to Lincoln, Neb. to take on The University of Nebraska Cornhuskers Feb. 24th and 25th.

Kansas rallied from three goals down to tie Illinois State on Friday. Kyle Wilson scored with a minute and-a-half remaining in the third period to bring the Jayhaws within one. David Knight then scored to tie the game with seven seconds remaining on the clock. Neither team could capitalize in the overtime period. KU extended its unbeaten streak to three games after wins over Robert Morris College in Chicago last weekend.

The Jayhawks will be traveling to Nebraska to play the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers on Feb. 24 and 25, 2006. The game time and location are to be announced and will be posted as they become available.

The McKendree College Bearcats swept Kansas this weekend to even the season series at two games a piece.
On friday night, the Jayhawks lost in overtime on a controversial goal when McKendree forward Nick Dreyer put in a loose puck just as the KU net appeared to come loose. The goal stood and McKendree won 6-5. Scoring for the Jayhawks were senior captain Steve Barbaro with two goals, forwards Erik Bredesen, David Knight and Nick Hantge each added a goal as well. Paulitsch stopped 42 of 48 shots in the loss.
On Saturday, Bredesen, had a hat trick and Steve Handy scored his third goal of the season but it wasn\'t enough as McKendree outlasted KU and collected a 6-5 victory.
The Jayhawks next game is against Missouri State University Friday, December 9 at 7 p.m. and Sturday, December 10 at 4 p.m at Jordan Valley Ice Park in Springfield, MO.

Kansas beat theOklahoma State Cowboys (ACHA-D3) this weekend 17-1 Friday and 15-4 on Saturday.
Next weekend the Jayhawks travel to Fairview Heights, Illinois to take on McKendree College. Kansas swept the Bearcats earlier this season at home.

The Lindenwood Lions completed the sweep of their season series with Kansas defeating the Jayhawks 4-1 and 8-3 over the weekend.
On Friday, Nick Hantge scored the lone goal for the Jayhawks, bringing his team-leading point total to 19 on the season. Brent Pitts made 42 saves on 46 shots in the loss.
On Saturday David Knight and Dan Guilfoil scored for the Jayhawks and Steve Handy collected his first goal of the season. Adam Paulitsch stopped 42 of 50 shots in the loss.
Kansas has this weekend off before hosting Oklahoma State on Friday, Nov. 11 and Saturday, Nov. 12. The Jayhawks are 2-0 all time against the Cowboys.

Kansas swept the McKendree College Bearcats this weekend. It was KU\'s first sweep of a weekend series this season and extended the team\'s winning streak to three games.
On friday night the Jayhawks won 8-5 led by Erik Bredesen who had 6 points (2g, 4a) in his first game back from an injury. Nick Hantge had 4 points (1g, 3a); David Knight had 3 (2g, 1a); Steve Barbaro, Dan Guilfoil and Alex Wahl each had 2 points and Ryne Tusten had a point. Goaltender Adam Paulitsch stopped 22 of 27 shots en route to his third win of the season.
On Saturday, senior captain Barbaro led the scoring netting his first hat-trick of the season and adding an assist. Hantge had three assists and a goal. Guilfoil had three points (2g, 1a) and Knight had an assist. Paulitsch stopped 33 of 36 pucks and tallied his fourth win of the season.
The Jayhawks face-off against Lindenwood University this Friday and Sturday at 8 p.m. each night. Lidenwood swept the earlier meeting this year. The Jayhawks are 0-7 all-time against the Lions including two losses to Lindenwood\'s Division 1 ACHA team during the 2003-2004 season.

Kansas and Denver Metro State split a pair of games over the weekend.
The Roadrunners outshot the Jayhawks 51-33 on Friday. Freshman goaltender Brent Pitts made 46 saves but the effort was not enough as KU fell just short losing 5-4.
On Saturday Kansas was again outshot, this time 63-45. Sophomore goalie Adam Paulitsch made 56 saves including a stop on a penalty shot and two breakaways in the last five minutes of regulation as Kansas won 8-7. The Jayhawks take on the McKendree College Bearcats this weekend at home. Game times are 8 p.m. both Friday and Saturday nights.

Kansas split the weekend series with Palmer College losing 4-2 on Friday and winning 3-1 on Saturday.
On Friday, Steve Barbaro and Nick Hantge scored for Kansas and Adam Paulitsch stopped 34 shots in the loss.
David Knight had two goals and Steve Barbaro scored what proved to be the game winner for the Jayhawks in Saturday\'s game and Brent Pitts stopped 34 of 35 shots on his way to his first win of the season. KU travels to Colorado this weekend for two games against the Metropolitan State College of Denver. Game times are 5 p.m. Friday and 9:30 p.m. Saturday at The Edge in Littleton.

Lindenwood swept the weekend series beating the Jayhawks 6-2 and 7-1 on Saturday and Sunday in St. Louis. The Hawks dropped to 1-5 on the season. Scoring this weekend for KU were Nick Hantge with two goals and Dan Guilfoil with one. Kansas hosts Palmer College this weekend at Ice Midwest. Game times are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights.

The Missouri Tigers swept the weekend home-and-home series beating Kansas on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the Jayhawks jumped out to an early lead on a goal by Senior forward David Knight. Missouri quickly tied it up and the teams headed into their dressing rooms knotted at one-goal-a-piece after the first. Mizzou capitalized on a second period collapse by the Jayhawks reeling off six more goals in a matter of minutes. Nick Hantge scored for KU late in the second to make the score 7-2 after the second. In the third, freshman Erik Bredesen scored for KU and the Tigers also added a goal making the final 8-3.
On Saturday in Missouri, the Tigers jumped out to an early lead. The game was back-and-forth for the first two periods though the Tigers never trailed. The game was tied 1-1 after the first and Mizzou used two late second period goals to take a 5-3 lead into the third. Mizzou added a trio of goals in the third making the score 8-3 once again. KU\'s number-two-line continued to produce. Center David Knight, and wings Erik Bredesen and Dan Guilfoil each had one goal in the loss.
The Jayhawks travel to Lindenwood University this weekend for a pair of games against the Division II ACHA Lions. Game times are 1 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

The Jayhawks lost 4-3 to Missouri State (White) on Saturday, splitting the weekend series. The Bears jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the first period and added another goal in the second to make it 4-0. KU attempted a comback but fell just short. Nick Hantge, Matt Zellmer and Erik Bredesen scored for the Jayhawks. The teams combined for 24 penalties in the game. KU takes on the rival Missouri Tigers Friday, September 23rd at 8 p.m.
